The Mathews High School girls’ basketball teams had an exciting week with four games back-to-back this week and only one being home. Last Thursday, the Lady Devils traveled to Charles City to compete against the Panthers. The JV team started off on the wrong foot and didn’t score at all in the first quarter. In the second quarter they headed in the right direction scoring six points. The second half wasn’t quite what they hoped for, only scoring four points total in the second half, falling to the Panthers 16-10. It was a different story for the varsity girls. The Lady Devils dominated the Panthers’ court with flying numbers. The girls won the opening tipoff, scoring the first nine points of the game and ending the first quarter leading 18-9. The second half was just as good. The Lady Devils put the Panthers to a stop, with them only scoring four points and heading into halftime up 30-13.
