The Mathews High School varsity girls’ volleyball team put up a good fight, but dropped a pair of matches this past week to Tidewater District opponents West Point and King William.
In last Thursday’s Senior Night game against the Pointers, West Point swept the Lady Devils in three sets, 25-16, 25-12 and 25-12.
Senior Abigail Ramsey served the highest number of aces on the team with two, while Addison Griffith followed with one. Carter Hayes had four kills, and Hailey Love and senior Hannah Davis each had a blocking assist.
On Tuesday night, the MHS girls fell to the visitors from King William, 3-1. The JV Lady Devils, meanwhile, picked up a pair of wins, beating both West Point and King William by 2-1 margins.
