MHS girls fall to Lancaster in regional semifinals

The Mathews High School volleyball team’s season came to an end last Thursday, as the Lady Blue Devils fell to the Lady Red Devils in the regional semifinal match, 3-1.
Supported by a large crowd of Mathews supporters who made the drive up to the Northern Neck, Mathews started off strong in the opening set, battling the Red Devils point for point, but eventually falling, 25-22. Mathews evened up the contest in the second set, winning by that same 25-22 margin.
Lancaster then dominated the last two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-12 to take the win.
Some highlights of the match included Carter Hayes with 10 kills and Addy Lowe with nine. Hannah Davis had a solo block, with many block assists throughout the match.
Three MHS girls ended the year with post-season honors. Senior Nora Suthard was named first-team all-district, while senior Hannah Davis and freshman Hailey Love received second-team honors.
