MHS girls fall to K&Q in finale

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team fell in its season finale last Thursday in an away game against the King and Queen Tigers.

After winning the opening set 25-18, the MHS girls dropped the next three by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-15. Standouts for Mathews in the game included Lily Jarosz (three kills), Chloe Schaible (16 serves, three aces), Sarah Ashbaugh (six kills), Chelsea Lowe (six kills, seven digs), Autumn Jenkins (17 assists, seven digs), Olivia Ashbaugh (two kills) and Reese Brock (five kills).

“King and Queen was celebrating its Senior Night and they came to play,” varsity coach Pat Moughon said. There were many long rallies, and although the Mathews girls gave it their best, King and Queen came out on top, she added.

“This group of girls is one of the hardest working teams I’ve ever coached,” Moughon said. “They take full responsibility for their mistakes and go the extra mile. The lack of experience (due to Covid) seems to be hitting them now.
