The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team dropped a pair of games last week, falling on the road to Colonial Beach last Wednesday and losing to Northumberland last Thursday. The girls came back Tuesday to post a win over the visiting King and Queen Tigers.

In last Wednesday’s match, the Lady Drifters took the win, 3-0, although Mathews had won by the same margin against Colonial Beach in the season opener the week before.
Colonial Beach won the first set, 25-15, and the next two by 25-21 margins. Carter Hayes led the Lady Devils with aces. Hailey Love had four kills and Hayes, Nora Suthard and Hannah Davis all followed along with three. Davis also had five solo blocks and two block assists. The Lady Blue Devils fought hard, but could not secure the win.
The following night, Mathews fell to the visiting Indians, 3-1. It was a rough game for the Blue Devils, but there were various amazing plays. Hayes and Davis both led the team in aces as well as kills, each having four. T...
