MHS girls crush Pointers, 49-13

In the last regular season game before heading into winter break, the Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team crushed West Point on Friday night, 49-13.

Mathews led, 23-12, at the half and basically shut out the visiting Pointers in the final two quarters to coast to victory.

Senior Sarah Ashbaugh was the top scorer, ending the night with 17 points. Reese Brock also had a strong night, contributing 14 points. Olivia Ashbaugh, Serenity Forrest and Kayla Carr rounded out the scoring for Mathews with six points apiece.

With the win, Mathews improves its record to 2-5. While the girls do not play any regular season games over break, they will participate in a holiday tournament taking place in Charlottesville on Dec. 27-29.
