The Mathews High School varsity girls’ volleyball team defeated King and Queen and fell to Middlesex in a pair of road games this past week.
The Lady Devils will take on the visiting West Point Pointers tonight, Thursday, Oct. 9, with the MHS seniors recognized between the JV and varsity games.
The MHS teams traveled to Central High School last Thursday to face the King and Queen Tigers. The Mathews varsity girls started off strong and took the first two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-10. The Tigers came back to win the third, 25-19, but Mathews brought it back and won the fourth set, 25-16, and the match.
Nora Suthard had six kills and following her was Hailey Love with five. Suthard also led the team in aces and blocks, serving five aces and three blocks.
The MHS JV girls, meanwhile, lost to King and Queen in three sets, with Mathews taking the second set.
