MHS girls beat King William

The Mathews High School girls’ basketball program started off 2015 on a strong note, with both the varsity and JV teams easily defeating the visiting King William Cavaliers on Tuesday night.

Madison Owens led the varsity Lady Devils in the 45-33 victory over the Cavs, scoring 11 points. Kai McCann and Taylor South were right behind with nine points each. Kirsten Beatley added seven. Hunter Thomas, Maria Spadaccini and Savanna Wooten also scored points in the win.

The junior varsity team had an even easier time with King William, winning 25-6. Hallie Duncan was the only MHS player to end the night in double figures, scoring 10 points. Jolie Ewell chipped in six points. Sierra Davis, Yolanda Fells and Kenzie Tunstall also made it on the scoreboard in the lopsided victory.
