MHS falls in OT to Drifters

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team dropped a pair of road games this week, including a contest Friday against Colonial Beach that was decided in overtime.

Colonial Beach

After ending regulation play tied, 40-40, Mathews and Colonial Beach went into OT. The MHS girls pushed the floor for the last four minutes, but fell short with a final score of 50-44.

Reese Brock and Sarah Ashbaugh led the team with 13 points each. Olivia Ashbaugh also ended the game in double figures with 10. Rounding out the scoring were Trinity Reynolds (four points), Grayson Griffith and Laura Rowe (two points each), and Avery Thomas (one point).

The JV Devils lost their game to the Drifters as well, falling 24-9. Liberti Carter (five points) and Kristen Hudgins and Addison Lowe (two points each) provided the only Mathews points.
