MHS boys post wins over Pointers, Chargers

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team picked up a pair of convincing wins over Tidewater District opponents this past week, crushing West Point at home last Thursday, 62-29, and scoring another lopsided victory on the road on Tuesday against Middlesex, 83-42.

The junior varsity Devils also posted victories over the Pointers and Chargers.

Mathews ended last week on a strong note as the Devils dominated West Point in front of a home crowd, outscoring the visiting Pointers by more than a 2-to-1 margin.

After the first eight minutes, West Point had only a single point on the board compared to 16 for Mathews. The Blue Devils’ press began to lose intensity in the second quarter, and West Point started to score with more consistency.
