MHS boys place 2nd, girls take 5th at district track championships

The Mathews High School boys placed second, and the MHS girls came in fifth in last Thursday’s Tidewater District outdoor track and field championships at Charles City High School.

MHS senior Donovan Forrest, the reigning state champion in the 110-meter hurdles, had a false start in that event and was disqualified. But he did take first place in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Forrest will get another shot at the 110-meter hurdles at the regional tournament, which was scheduled for yesterday, Wednesday, May 28, also at Charles City.
Also taking first place at the district meet was Gavin Dustin, who won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.04. The boys’ 4x400 meter relay (Jerrell Johnson, Seth James, Gavin Dustin and Keith Taylor) and the 4x800 meter relay (James, Adam Greve, Dustin and Taylor) won their events, with times of 3:39.34 and 9:03, respectively.
