Six members of the Mathews High School baseball team and five members of both the MHS girls’ and boys’ soccer teams received Region 1A All-Region honors, MHS athletic director Amy O’Neil announced earlier this week.
All six baseball honorees—pitcher Justin Jones, catcher Zac Salvadori, first baseman Jordyn Cosby, third baseman Christian Blue, outfielder Colin Moore and designated hitter Hayden Owens—were named second-team All-Region.
All five girls’ soccer honorees—forwards Lauren Johnson and Hailey Denkinger, midfielders Katherine Murphy and Lorena Carballo and Baylee Bell (defense)—received first-team All-Region honors.
For the MHS boys’ soccer team, forward Sal Cardenas won first-team honors, while teammates Stanley Ouma (forward), Henry Sowers (forward), Seth James (midfield) and Elton Hudgins (defense) were named second-team All-Region.
