The Mathews High School boys’ outdoor track team placed third, while the MHS girls came in sixth in the VHSL Group 1A Regional Championship meet, which was held last Thursday at Charles City High School.
Boys
For the boys, senior Donovan Forrest won both the 100-meter dash and 110-meter hurdles, while placing third in the 200-meter dash. Fellow senior Gavin Dustin won the 800-meter run, and came in third in the high jump. Senior Keith Taylor placed third in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump.
Chance Higginbotham came in third in the 3,200-meter run, with Jon Jenkins right behind him in fourth place. Adam Dustin also earned a spot in the state tournament with his fourth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.
The 4x400 relay team of Jerrell Johnson, Seth James, Gavin Dustin and Keith Taylor placed first, while the 4x800 relay team of James, Adam Greve, Gavin Dustin and Taylor turned in a season’s best time to place third.
