Maurice “Maury” King Jr., 89, of Mathews, formerly of Richmond, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Hjordis King, and his brother, John.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, June Atherton King, who was the love of his life, along with their four children, Monica Seay, Mike King (Dana), Kathy Lauver, and Beth Downer (Geoff); eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren to whom he was known as PaPa.

Maury was a 1951 chemistry graduate of VMI and a U.S. Army veteran. He retired as a sales engineer for AES Engineered Systems.  

Maury was a member of the American Legion Post 83 and of Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church.

Visitation was held at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, on Wednesday, March 6, from 5-7 p.m.  Graveside services with military honors will be held at H.C. Smither Memorial Cemetery in Hudgins, on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow at Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church in Cobbs Creek.
