The Mathews Board of Supervisors will have its regular monthly meeting at 6 o’clock tonight, Thursday, Dec. 18, in the historic courthouse on Court Street. Among the items on the agenda is a public hearing on an amendment to increase the budget by $1.134 million, to $37.49 million, a 3 percent increase. As reported in last week’s Gazette-Journal, general fund expenditures would increase by $1.06 million in such areas as the sheriff’s office ($188,381), real estate assessment ($150,000), IT ($78,250), county administration ($46,855), library services ($44,030), and more. There would also be increases in capital outlay ($315,000) and fleet expenditures ($131,688), taken from the county’s meals tax funds. Under special presentations and recognitions, the county’s auditor, Taylor Stover, a CPA with Robinson, Farmer, Cox Associates, will give a virtual presentation on a draft of the county’s FY2025 audit, and the board will recognize Mathews High School junior Jordan Sadeg for being awarded...
