The Mathews County Board of Supervisors will hold three public hearings beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Mathews High School auditorium. This will be the first time the entire board has convened in person since the governor issued stay-at-home orders and closures in March. The board expects to consider two requests for conditional use permits and one request for a zoning change, said Mathews County Administrator Mindy Conner. Public hearings on all three cases were heard before the Mathews County Planning Commission on Tuesday. The two boards generally have joint public hearings to simplify the process, but Conner said that space limitations make it difficult to adhere to state guidelines for social distancing while also bringing together in one room five supervisors, seven planning commissioners, required staff, applicants and their retinue, and other audience members.
