A program designed to provide Mathews students with some practical, hands-on experience in the field of technology is one of 93 featured programs in this year’s 20th annual Virginia School Boards Association Showcase for Success directory.

The 2016 directory, which includes 93 educational programs from 52 Virginia school divisions, highlights successful K-12 programs in the state’s public schools. This year’s featured programs highlight successful initiatives related to workforce readiness, and career and technical education.

Bill Vrooman, technology coordinator for Mathews County Public Schools, heads up the division’s Student Technology Assistants Program. This program consists of one paid student and two volunteers who work a few hours after school and four days a week over summer vacation.

As students graduate or move out of the program, new students are selected by teachers at the middle school, according to information on the VSBA website....
