Mathews school employee tests positive for COVID-19

According to a post Tuesday morning on the Mathews County Public Schools’ website from superintendent Nancy Welch, a Mathews County School employee in the division’s transportation department has tested positive for COVID-19. The following is the message that is posted on the website:

Good morning.  This is Nancy Welch, Superintendent of Mathews County Schools

VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE

This morning, I have been in direct contact with the Virginia Health Department’s Three Rivers Health District Office which services Mathews County.  For transparency purposes, I am making you aware that a member of the Mathews County Public Schools team has tested positive for COVID-19.  This employee has served our school division with the transportation department.

We are currently working with the Health Department to compile a list of individuals that may have come in direct contact with this employee.  The list of individuals and their contact information will be given to the Health Department who will then call each individual in the near future.

While I am confident the exposure to this individual is limited, it is prudent that everyone remember to take precautions to avoid future exposure.  Wash your hands, stay home if possible and practice social distancing. PLEASE.
