“Becoming a nurse and mother sorta took the spunk out of my wardrobe, about as far as you could get from having boutique dreams,” said Janet Bing Herndon of Cobbs Creek.
Not only did Herndon wear scrubs while at work, but she dressed for comfort on her days off, as well. “I found myself wearing yoga pants and workout attire because I did not want to be miserable in skinny jeans or whatever else the fashion industry was trying to squeeze me into.”
But now Herndon can dress comfortably and stylishly on her days off. She is a consultant for LuLaRoe, a California-based company that features stylish clothing made of extremely comfortable materials.
Herndon runs a “popup boutique,” taking her inventory of dresses, skirts, tunics and other apparel to sell at Wilton Cottage on Gloucester’s Main Street, at home parties and at other venues. As the name implies, she “pops up” at a location for only a couple of hours and then she’s gone.
She owns her inventory, having purchased it from LuLaRoe. If a woman hosts a home party she can receive free clothing for being a hostess.
“LuLaRoe represents every woman trying to be comfortable, stylish and feeling her best,” Herndon said.
Herndon operates her clothing business part time. She also is an Intensive Care Unit nurse at Sentara Williamsburg Hospital.
Originally from Mathews, she is a graduate of Mathews High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Old Dominion University
Her husband Louis is an appraiser/assessor for Gloucester County. They have one son, Lleyton, 8.
