Mathews planners, supervisors to hold three hearings Tuesday

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors and the Mathews County Planning Commission will hold three joint public hearings during a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse.

The county will hold two public hearings on establishment of a village mixed use zoning district in the downtown area. The district would accommodate a mixture of commercial activities, institutional and public uses, and residential housing types to complement existing village development, according to a memo by planning and zoning director John Shaw. The first hearing would be on the district itself, while the second hearing would be on changes to definitions that would relate to the district.

In a third public hearing, Deborah Hall Silvus has applied for a conditional use permit to put a recreation and amusement enterprise in the building that houses the Hallieford Post Office.
