Mathews planners recommend against adoption of CIP

Mathews planners expressed their disapproval of the county’s proposed FY2027 capital improvement plan during Tuesday night’s meeting of the Mathews Planning Commission, unanimously voting to recommend against adoption of the document by the Mathews Board of Supervisors. Expressing varying levels of outrage, commission members pointed out that they had received the CIP just last Thursday from County Administrator Ramona Wilson, and adoption of the budget and tax rates is scheduled for April 30. “We don’t meet again until after April 30th, so they’ve given us one night,” said commissioner Byron Rauch.Chairman Billy Cook said that supervisors had “already approved a lot of projects,” along with a $12 million bond issuance to pay for them.
