Mathews planners hold brief meeting

The Mathews Planning Commission had a short meeting on Tuesday night in the historic courthouse in spite of holding two public hearings and taking other matters into consideration. The first public hearing was on amendments to the ordinance governing short-term vacation rentals. Suzy Buckhalter, who owns such a rental in Mathews and is on the citizen committee that helped draft the amendments, pointed out during public comment period that there were two versions of the ordinance in the packet, and she questioned which one was under consideration. Chair Billy Cook stated that the ordinance under consideration included a requirement for a zoning permit and a business license, and that the other draft had been removed from the website prior to the meeting. However, both versions were still in the packet.
