Mathews native named assisted living director at Sanders

Mathews County native Megan Merritt has been named Director of Assisted Living at Sanders Retirement Community in Gloucester Court House.

“I’m glad to be part of the Riverside team, especially here, so close to home,” Merritt said. She has worked in long-term care and with older adults since graduating from Old Dominion University, mainly at the Riverside Smithfield Convalescent Center. 

Located in Gloucester for more than 50 years, Sanders Retirement Community is part of Riverside’s three continuing care retirement communities. These include Heron Cove, built in 2012 to replace the aging Sanders nursing home with Virginia’s first fully deinstitutionalized nursing home; independent living cottages; and 32 assisted living apartments, which can host up to 45 residents.
