Mathews NAACP to hold Freedom Fund dinner on Oct. 4

NAACP Mathews Branch will hold its annual Freedom Fund dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, 176 Lovers Lane, Mathews.

The theme of this year’s dinner is “A Fight for Freedom.” The featured speaker is Christine Carmichael, Director of Programs at The Gloucester Institute, which is based at Holly Knoll, Gloucester. It is the historic home of famed African American educator Dr. Robert Russa Moton.

Carmichael serves at Greater Refuge Church in Richmond. She is also the executive director of When Women Pray, where she leads a weekly intercessory prayer call for women who are committed to praying for families, schools, leaders and communities across the nation.

She is the founder and CEO of The Flemming Academy of Etiquette & Protocol. She is passionate about “helping others embrace etiquette as more than a social nicety—but as a powerful tool for confidence, connection, and community transformation. She believes etiquette sharpens one’s image, builds authentic relationships, and equips individuals to thrive in every environment—from the boardroom to the dining room,” a release stated.

Also speaking is Brian Robinson, 2025 graduate of Old Dominion University and recipient of the 2024, 2023 and 2022 Beatrice Bobo Scholarships from the Mathews Branch NAACP.

Tickets for the dinner are $50 each and can be purchased from any member of the Mathews NAACP Executive Committee or by emailing mathewsnaacp@gmail.com or go to https://quickclick.com/r/76nz27onopoypy3n0n3yrbp5xwwv55.
