Mathews May Faire a ‘wonderful success’

While there were a few sprinkles on Saturday morning when the Mathews High School band was playing, and the winds were fairly intense at times on Sunday, the weather held out for the most part for this year’s Mathews May Faire, according to co-chairman Melody Barnes.

“The Mathews May Faire Committee would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who helped make this year’s May Faire such a wonderful success,” she said.

This year’s May Faire opened with Lynette Glockner singing the National Anthem, as members of American Legion Post 83 served as the color guard. Both days included a lineup of music and other performances on the main stage, which was set up on the court green. The festival also included vendors, civic groups and a number of food booths.

“We are incredibly grateful to all of our vendors, entertainers, sponsors, and attendees for bringing energy, creativity and community spirit to the weekend,” Barnes said. “A special thank-you goes to the Mathews Museum for their continued support and partnership in helping preserve and celebrate our local history.”

Barnes went on to recognize the many volunteers working behind the scenes before, during and after the weekend. “Your dedication made everything possible,” she said. “Special thanks to the entire May Faire Committee for their countless hours of planning and coordination.”

She also singled out the efforts of Shawn Jaeger for providing the sound engineering expertise and Christina Amaral for serving as the weekend’s Master of Ceremonies.
