As the Mathews High School teams ready themselves for post-season play, All-Tidewater District selections were named this week.
Five members of the MHS boys’ soccer team received first-team honors, while three others made second team and one earned honorable mention.
Midfielder Seth James, forwards Sal Cardenas, Stanley Ouma and Henry Sowers and Elton Hudgins (defense) were first-team picks, while midfielder Elias Hidalgo and defensemen Noah Hurst and Corey Zheng won second team. Goalkeeper Adam Dustin received honorable mention.\
For the girls’ soccer team, Hailey Denkinger (forward), Lauren Johnson (midfield), Kat Murphy (midfield) and Baylee Bell (defense) were first-team picks, while Suki Zheng (forward) and Hannah McBurney (defense) received second-team honors.
