Mathews girls improve to 14-2

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team improved its overall season record to 14-2 this week with wins over King and Queen, Charles City and King William. The Lady Devils are 5-0 in conference play.

MHS traveled to King and Queen last Wednesday and picked up an easy win over the Tigers, taking the match in straight sets, 25-5, 25-4 and 25-18. Brittany Mitchem led the team in kills with four; Josey Bauby and Emily Sorey followed with three each. Keely Crittenden, Mariah Robinson, Hallie Duncan, Anne Stewart, Belle Massimino, Caroline Crittenden and Madisyn Jackson each added two kills, while Victoria Bing scored one.

Sarah Brown had 23 assists. Mia Gillenwater contributed two assists and Bauby had one. Brown served seven aces, C. Crittenden and Massimino each served five, and Mitchem and Gillenwater served four apiece. Mitchem, Stewart and C. Crittenden each had a solo block.
