Mathews filmmaker signs contract to distribute ‘The Judge’ documentary

Documentary filmmaker Robert Griffith of Moon has signed a contract with independent film distributor Gravitas Ventures, giving the company rights to distribute his most recent documentary, “The Judge—Character. Cases. Courage.”

Narrated by Justin Theroux, the documentary follows Judge Robert R. Merhige Jr. in his 31-year tenure on the federal bench, where he fought against the status quo to promote racial and gender equality, protect the environment, and uphold the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution, a release stated.

Included in the film are featured interviews that Griffith conducted with U.S. Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, and Anne Holton, Judge Merhige’s former law clerk, among others.

The picture, which hails from the American Documentary Film Fund, established by Griffith and Allen Calderaro of Richmond, was released on Tuesday, Jan. 26, on a variety of video on demand digital platforms.
