For almost half a century, the Mathews County Christmas Store has made a heartfelt difference during the holidays for residents and families in need. The annual event serves over 650 residents of the small community of Mathews by providing them with a holiday shopping experience.
Everyone who participates in the Christmas Store is able to shop, at no cost, for brand-new housewares, small electronics, linens, toys and bikes, outerwear, personal products, beauty products, and more, said Christmas Store coordinator Bernadette La Casse. On top of that, children are able to write letters to Santa and shop for small presents for their parents and guardians.
The store is made possible by the contributions of Mathews residents and numerous local, regional and commercial organizations that work in partnership with the Mathews Department of Social Services, said La Casse in a fundraising letter, adding that the program receives no funding from the county or the state.
