Mathews Chamber to hold meet and greet Monday

An after-hours meet and greet for the Mathews County Chamber of Commerce will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday at the Mathews branch of Chesapeake Bank.

This program is being held to gauge interest in restarting the Mathews chamber, something that’s been in the works for almost a year now.

Lynn Jaeger called a community meeting to revitalize the Chamber of Commerce last August, with approximately a dozen representatives from businesses and local nonprofit organizations in attendance. Three months later, a decision was made to go ahead with the chamber.

Into the late 1990s, the Mathews chamber was an active group. Membership fell off and it became dormant in the early 2000s. The Mathews County Chamber of Commerce, however, is still an active corporation, with Brenda Moore listed as its registered agent.

Moore was one of those in attendance last Thursday at the Bay School as the final plans were being made for this Monday’s meet and greet.
