The Discover Mathews Business Group (DMBG) has been well received in its first few months of operation, organizer Mac Casale said.

The group will meet at 6:30 tonight at The White Dog Bistro on Church Street, which Casale owns with his wife J.C. He said he will present an update on a marketing plan to be rolled out in early January, as well as a website that should be up and running early next year.

DMBG is working to promote the county. The need was made apparent, Casale said, because the Mathews County Chamber of Commerce had become inactive.

Casale said he had hoped that 20 businesses or groups would affiliate with the group—and 25 already have. All are based in Mathews, except for the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, which is based in Gloucester and serves those counties, and Middlesex. In addition, the civic group Mathews Rotary Club has joined the group, he said, along with businesses from many sectors, from lawyers to retailers, restaurants to bed and breakfasts.
