Mathews blood drive

Sixty-four units of blood were collected at the Mathews Community American Red Cross Blood Drive, held on Tuesday, April 16, at the Piankatank Ruritan Club building in Hudgins. A total of 66 potential donors attended; four were deferred, four others were unable to give a sufficient quantity, while eight provided a Double Red donation. First-timers included Cole Harris, Michael Kuhns, Kirsten Thomas and Susan Tyler, while Kristin Harris and Coleman Tyler donated for the first time at a Mathews drive. Gallon pins were awarded to Terry Hyman (one gallon), Cheryl Zecher and Jay Booth (three gallons), Jerry L’Heureux (five gallons) and, pictured above, Bruce Meador (15 gallons). The next Mathews drive will be held July 16.
