Master Naturalists hold fall equinox event

Middle Peninsula Master Naturalist members on Sept. 29 gathered at the Deltaville Maritime Museum to celebrate with a fall equinox event.

The meeting included awards and flash talks on the group’s citizen science projects. Flash talk topics included the King Tide, Vernal Pools, Bird and Butterfly counts, Ospreys, Milkweed and the Diamondback Terrapin Project at Machicomoco State Park, Hayes.

Awards were presented as follows: 10,000 volunteer hours—Bill Blair; 2,500 volunteer hours—Dave Harlan; 1,000 hours—Edith Bradbury, Chris Conley, Denise Deckert, Luann Johnson, Jan Towne and Anne Wilbur; 500 hours—Patricia Anderson, Debbie Rollins, C.J. Sweet and David Yeager; 250 hours—Amy Baker, Bill Corbin, Steve Mathews, Betsy Dern and Tomoko Hamada.

Several volunteers also completed requirements for their initial certification. These volunteers are Ed Brown, Ginette Colot, Tiffany Gould, Grace Hanners, V. Ross Johnson, Steve Mathews, Diane Miller, Sven Pretzman, Joyce Pully and David Yeager.

Middle Peninsula Master Naturalists serve the counties of Gloucester, Mathews, Middlesex, King and Queen and King William.
