Mabel Matthews, 99, of Port Haywood, went to be with her heavenly Father on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at her daughter’s home.

Mabel was born on Oct. 21, 1916 in Diggs, Va. She was an active member of Mathews Chapel Church for over 70 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie B. Matthews and her son, Harold Rainier Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet R. Deagle and son, Robert Martin Rainier Sr. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The family received friends on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Mathews Chapel Church in Cobbs Creek. A celebration of her life was held on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015, at 2 p.m. in Mathews Chapel UM Church. Burial followed in Haynes Cemetery.
