M. DANIEL ROSS

M. Daniel "Danny" Ross, 67, peacefully joined the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, after a year-long battle with lung cancer.

He was a resident of Gloucester and Mathews for many years. Danny was an electrical engineer with Amsec and retired in 2010.

Danny graduated from Hampton High School in 1962 and Danville Technical Institute in 1965. He coached Gloucester Youth baseball and football for many years, as well as the Gloucester Post 75 American Legion baseball team. He was an active member of the Lee Hall Boys Club, and a member of Union Baptist Church.

Danny was preceded in rest by his father, Jack Earl Ross, and his mother, Ezzie Lee Simmons.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Polly Deel Ross; sons, Shawn Ross and wife Allison, and Todd Ross and wife Carrie; grandchildren, Daniel Raymond, Haley Elizabeth, Kayla Diane, Christian Lee, and Karley Gwendolyn; sister, Patsy Vicenzi and husband Dave; his many friends from Lee Hall Boys Club and the P-Boys; his dog, Rusty, and a host of other family and friends.

A celebration of Danny’s life was held on Monday, Nov. 28 at 4 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with a visitation following the service.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Sherry Whitby and the doctors and nurses at the Peninsula Cancer Institute, and the ICU at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, Va.
