Lucy’s Smokin’ BBQ and Seafood opened recently in White Marsh Shopping Center.

Owners Mickey and Lucy Joyner of Gloucester operate the restaurant full time with the help of four part-time assistants. Like its name indicates, the restaurant specializes in both pulled pork and chicken barbecue sandwiches and an assortment of fried seafood.

The top seller has been the pulled pork barbecue sandwich, Mickey said, which can be topped with their homemade Carolina (vinegar) or Texas (sweet) sauces. Chicken barbecue also sells well, he said.

Hickory wood is used exclusively on the smoker, Mickey said, after they experimented with cherry, oak and other woods. Hickory, he added, gives “a bolder, sweeter flavor” to food being smoked. Baby back ribs are another Lucy’s favorite, the owners said, which are sold by the quarter, half and full rack.
