LT. COL. REGINALD DEAGLE

Lt. Col. Reginald Deagle, retired, 92, of Mathews, passed away Oct. 15, 2015 at home.

He was born Dec. 12, 1922 to Lucy and George Deagle. Reggie graduated from Norview High School (1940) and Norfolk Naval Shipyard Apprentice School (1948). He was in the Maritime Service from 1943-1948, drafted into the U.S. Army in 1948 and served his country until 1970. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Legion of Merit. Reggie also received a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Maryland in 1969 and a Master of Science degree in Education from Old Dominion University in 1972.

He also was a school bus driver for Mathews County Public Schools and a social worker for Mathews County Social Services before retiring. He delivered Meals on Wheels and was a member of the American Legion Post 83 and a faithful member of the Piankatank Ruritan Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucy Deagle, as well as his brother, Elliot Deagle and sisters, Martha Allridge and Audrey Sawyer.

He is survived by his wife, Anna V. Deagle; son, Richard R. Deagle of Jersey City, N.J.; stepsons, Steve Shaw (Amy), James Michael Shaw (Casey); two grandsons, Nathan Warren Shaw and John Stephen Shaw, and a special friend, Mary Montague, all of Mathews.

The family received friends on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015, from 12-1 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home. The funeral service followed visitation at 1 o’clock. Interment was held at Gwynn’s Island Cemetery.
