Local effect of opioid epidemic topic of Sept. 21 meeting in Mathews

The local effect of the opioid epidemic will be outlined in a meeting of the Mathews County Resources Council on Thursday, Sept. 21.

The meeting will be held at the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad building at Hudgins, starting at 9 a.m. This is the second lecture on the opioid crisis by MCRC,

MCRC chair Rhoda-Jo Stress said community professionals will speak. They include:

Tiffany Gordon, director of Mathews Social Services; Dr. Christian Wathen of Middle Peninsula Medical Center, Inc.; 98th district Del. Keith Hodges, owner of Gloucester Pharmacy, who created the Middle Peninsula Regional Substance Abuse Task Force; Jenney Pritchett of Chesapeake Counseling Associates, and Nancy Welch, superintendent of Mathews County Public Schools.
