Residents receiving citations lately in the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament include the following:
Michael Stafford of Hayes, 6-pound, 12-ounce flounder, caught July 12 at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel;
Mekayla Crouse of Hayes, 47-inch red drum, caught and released July 13 at the CBBT;
Michael A. Thayer of Saluda, 10-pound, 8-ounce sheepshead, caught July 19 in the lower York River;
Shane Richardson of Gloucester, 11-pound, 3-ounce sheepshead, caught July 11 at CBBT; and,
Jacob Steinbacher of Hayes, 24-inch speckled trout, caught and released July 6 in Mobjack Bay.
These were among new citations listed in the July 30 edition of vasaltwaterjournal.com.
Leading entries
Deep into the 2025 saltwater season, local waters have produced two state leading entries per species.
Ross Hubbard of Gloucester has the largest sheepshead of 2025, so far. He caught the 16-pound 10-ounce fish in Mobjack Bay.
