At least two live readings of the Declaration of Independence are planned this month in Gloucester County churches. Grace on Main, 6470 Main Street, continues a long July 4 tradition, starting at 10 a.m. The celebration will include a reading of the Declaration of Independence, period music, patriotic songs, and a tribute honoring the armed forces. The program will conclude with a roll call of the Declaration’s signers, recognizing their courage and lasting legacy.Abingdon Episcopal Church, 4645 George Washington Memorial Highway, White Marsh, will have a reading of the Declaration of Independence on Sunday, July 19. Abingdon Episcopal‘s rector, the Rev. Sven vanBaars, said that John Page of Rosewell, Virginia, statesman and Abingdon member, wrote a letter on July 20, 1776 to his close friend and college classmate praising Jefferson’s newly drafted Declaration.
