Li’l Ole Opry to hold Talent Search

Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry will open its stage this Saturday night to some of the best local “unknown” talent around for the year’s only Talent Search Extravaganza.

The show, which will be held at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School beginning at 8 p.m., will feature the house band, Shades of Country, and all of the Opry singers on the first half.

In the second half of the show, contestants will perform songs that they have chosen and rehearsed with the band for a chance to win the trophy as the 2018 Talent Search Champion. After the contestants, while judges are making their decision, local musicians Michael Gregg, Chris Smith and Jarrod Lawson will play bluegrass selections.

“We have a wonderful lineup of performers for this show. It always amazes me to see how much talent there is in this area,” said Opry manager Lynda Smith. The contestants’ ages start at 9 years old and go up from there. Some performers are completely...
