Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry will celebrate its 50th season of country music shows with the first of two anniversary shows on Saturday night. This show will highlight the past, present and future of the Opry, featuring the house band, Shades of Country, and all of the Opry singers plus many special guests.
The group will be performing at Mathews High School’s Harry M. Ward auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30. Ticket prices are $15 for all adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under and can be purchased in advance at the Mathews Visitor Center in Mathews and Marketplace Antiques on Route 17 in Hayes. As always, tickets are also available at the door on show night, starting at 6:30.
“It all started on June 14, 1975, and we’re pretty excited to celebrate the Opry exactly fifty years later,” stated Opry president Lynda Smith. Smith, daughter of Opry founder Jimmy Smith, was there for the first show and started performing the next year, at two years old.
