Library renovations set to begin in early 2023

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors recently allocated approximately $450,000 of American Rescue Plan Act funding for renovations to be conducted inside the main branch of the Gloucester Public Library.

This funding, along with an additional $200,000 from the Main Street Preservation Trust for renovation, will allow for much-needed updates throughout the library, which is located in Main Street Center, a county release stated. Renovations are expected to begin early next year.

Specific improvements will include new flooring and paint throughout the facility. Updates will be made to the children’s area to make it safer and more efficient for programming. The patron services area (circulation desk) will be relocated as part of the renovations. Additional study rooms are expected to be added, along with updated electrical access points making it easier for patrons to plug in their devices.

“I think folks are really going to like what we have planned,” said Diane Rebertus, Gloucester’s Director of Library Services. “There will be a new look to the facility that will offer a better flow for access and usage.”

“We continue to be honored to have Gloucester’s treasured Library anchored at Main Street Center,” said Adrianne Joseph, Founder and Chair of the MSPT Board of Trustees. “We are excited the Gloucester Board of Supervisors has provided additional funding to supplement our agreement with the Library. Our collaborative efforts will ensure library patrons and visitors to Main Street Center will enjoy a safer, more up-to-date space for our community to visit and utilize.”

It is the intent for library services to be disrupted as little as possible during the renovation process. For more information, call the library at 804-693-2998 or email Library.Questions@gloucesterva.info.
