The Gloucester Library will hold its sixth Read and Recycle book program this winter.

Children’s specialist Kathy Barrows said that children ages 1-18 are encouraged to bring gently-used books from Jan. 4-31 to the main library in Main Street Center and at the Point branch at York River Crossing Shopping Center, Hayes. For each book they bring in during January, they will receive a "book buck" that can be used as credit for another book brought in to exchange.

From Feb. 1-27, children can visit the library to exchange their "book bucks" for other, gently-used books, library specialist Michelle Edwards said.

Barrows said this is just one of the "earth friendly services" available at the library. Among some of the others: household battery recycling ("Everyone always has batteries sitting around," Barrows said); cell phone recycling, and magazine recycling, a project of the Friends of the Gloucester Library.
