“This is our second cookie contest.”
Gloucester County Public Library, Main Street Center, is holding its second Yum Yum Cookie Baking Contest, following its success of last year. Nearly 50 bakers across three age groups entered the contest in 2023.
Last year, participants had the option of entering in one of three categories, which were Chocolate Chip, Decorated, and Baker’s Choice.
“Baker’s Choice was by far the most popular category,” said Lisa Thomas, library coordinator.
The library has recently announced its cookie categories for this year, which are Gingerbread and Baker’s Choice.
“This year, you can have an entry in each category,” said Thomas.
The contest will be judged in three age groups, third through fifth grades, sixth through 12th grades, and adults 18 and older.
Registration for the cookie contest begins Dec. 3 and will last through Dec. 11. During this time, bakers will pick up their container and set of rules at the Main library. Bakers must drop off their cookies in the library-provided container with a copy of the recipe they used on Dec. 12 between 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. No cookies that need refrigeration will be accepted.
Awards will be presented at the library’s Holiday Open House on Dec. 14 at 3:30 p.m.
Santa Claus and Open House
The library will hold its Santa Visits and Holiday Open House on Dec. 14 at the Main library.
Santa Claus will be at the library from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Call the Main Library at 804-693-2998 to reserve your appointment to visit with Santa, beginning Nov. 30.
Stick around for the library’s Holiday Open House, which begins at 1 p.m. and will last until 4 o’clock. The Magic of Harmony Show Chorus will perform at 1 p.m. in front of the library’s Christmas Tree, followed by the Chamber Group from Courthouse Community Orchestra at 2 p.m.
In the community room, Bayside Youth Ballet will perform at 1:30 and again at 2:30.
Awards for the Yum Yum Cookie Baking Contest will take place at 3:30.
No registration is required to attend the library’s Holiday Open House. There will be crafts for children. All ages are welcome for this family and community event.
