Thursday, Nov. 21

ORNAMENTS AND BOOKS: Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church has ornaments and advent books now available. Ornaments are $20 apiece and the books are available at no cost.

Saturday, Nov. 23

CHRISTMAS MARKET: Salem Community Church, Gloucester, will have its Christmas Market on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. There will be homemade baked goods, pastries, gifts, wreaths and Christmas decor.

Sunday, Nov. 24

ADVENT STUDY: Bellamy United Methodist Church, Gloucester, will have its advent study, “The Journey: Walking the Road to Bethlehem,” on Nov. 24 at 9:30 a.m. and Dec. 1, 15 and 22 at 9:15 a.m. The study will be led by Pastor Ed Walker. Children’s Church will feature lessons about advent candles on Dec. 1, 8, 15 and 22 at 10:30 a.m.

THANKSGIVING MEAL: Gwynn’s Island Church of the Nazarene, Hudgins, will have its Thanksgiving meal on Nov. 24 following morning worship, which begins at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Wednesday, Nov. 27

THANKSGIVING SERVICE: Locust Grove Church, Dutton, will have its Thanksgiving service on Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. Following the service, there will be a Praise and Pie Fellowship in the fellowship hall.

Thursday, Nov. 28

SPECIAL SERVICE: St. James On-The-Glebe Anglican Church, Zanoni, will hold morning prayer and holy communion for Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 28 at 10 a.m.

THANKSGIVING MEAL: Abingdon Episcopal Church, Gloucester, will have its annual community Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Nov. 28. All are welcome. There is no charge and no reservations are needed to take part in the Thanksgiving Day luncheon. Babysitting will be available for little ones while parents enjoy their meal.

THANKSGIVING MEAL: Living Waters Church, Dutton, will provide Thanksgiving meals for those in need in Mathews, Middlesex and Gloucester counties on Nov. 28 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Visit Living Waters online to reserve your meal.

THANKSGIVING MEAL: Kingston Episcopal Parish, Mathews, will have its Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner on Nov. 28 at 11 a.m. in the parish house. All are welcome at no charge.

Saturday, Nov. 30

SPECIAL SERVICE: St. James On-The-Glebe Anglican Church, Zanoni, will have morning prayer and holy communion for St. Andrew’s Day on Nov. 30 at 10 a.m.

DECORATING: Beech Grove Baptist Church, Hayes, will decorate the church for Christmas on Nov. 30 at 10 a.m.

Sunday, Dec. 1

HANGING OF THE GREENS: Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Gloucester, will have its Hanging of the Greens service on Dec. 1 at 9 a.m.

ADVENT BIBLE STUDY: Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Bena, will hold its Advent Bible Study on Dec. 1, 8, 15 and 22 at 9:30 a.m. The church will also hold its Hanging of the Greens service on Dec. 1 at 11 a.m.

ADVENT: Apostles Lutheran Church, Gloucester, will have its advent worship services with the lighting of the advent wreath on Dec. 1, 8, 15 and 22 at 10 a.m.

ADVENT: Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church will celebrate advent each Sunday in December.

ADVENT: Beech Grove Baptist Church, Hayes, will begin its celebration of advent on Dec. 1 at 10:30 a.m.

SINGSPIRATION: Union Baptist Church will hold its Christmas Singspiration, sponsored by The Kellum Family, on Dec. 1 at 4 p.m. Enjoy special Christmas- and holiday-themed tunes from individuals and groups. Refreshments will follow.

Wednesday, Dec. 4

ADVENT BIBLE SCHOOL: Gloucester Point Baptist Church will hold its Advent Bible School on Dec. 4, 11 and 18 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for children four years old through fifth grade and youth in grades six through 12. Learn the Christmas story, make crafts and play games. No registration required.

Friday, Dec. 6

FAMILY FUN NIGHT: Beulah Church of New Point and Saint Paul Comfort Church, Susan, will hold Family Fun Night at Beulah on Dec. 6 from 6:30-8 p.m. There will be dinner, Christmas carols and a visit from Santa Claus.

Sunday, Ded. 8

LUNCH: Beulah Church of New Point and Saint Paul Comfort Church, Susan, will hold a covered-dish lunch at Beulah on Dec. 8 at noon after worship.

CANTATA: Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Gloucester, will have its Christmas Cantata service, “Let There Be Christmas,” with an orchestra on Dec. 8 at 4 p.m.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAM: Mathews Baptist Church, Hudgins, will have its children’s Christmas program on Dec. 8 at 5 p.m.

SPECIAL MUSIC: Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church, Cobbs Creek, will hold “A Time for Christmas Music” on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. Enjoy special musical talents and Christmas carols.

Friday, Dec. 13

CHRISTMAS PARTY: Gwynn’s Island Church of the Nazarene, Hudgins, will have its Ladies’ Ministry Christmas Party & Fellowship on Dec. 13 at 6 p.m.

BETHLEHEM: New Point Chapel, in collaboration with other Mathews churches, will attend “Journey through Bethlehem” on Dec. 13-14 from 6-9 p.m. both days at Camp Piankatank in Hartfield. The journey will take participants through a 20-minute narrated ride through different scenes and reenactments of the Christmas story, leading to the birth of Jesus. The ride will begin again every half hour. While you wait for your journey to start, there will be refreshments and a fire. Hot chocolate will be provided at the end. This event is free. Reserve a time and number of seats at the New Point Chapel Facebook page.

Sunday, Dec. 15

PAGEANT: Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Gloucester, will have its children’s Christmas pageant on Dec. 15 at 10:30 a.m.

CANTATA: Beech Grove Baptist Church, Hayes, will have its Christmas cantata on Dec. 15 at 10:30 a.m. The cantata will be followed by a churchwide, covered-dish Christmas luncheon.

CHRISTMAS MUSIC: Bellamy United Methodist Church, Gloucester, will have its Christmas Music Worship service on Dec. 15 at 10:30 a.m. All choirs will participate.

CONCERT: Spring Hill Baptist Church, Cobbs Creek, will have its Christmas concert on Dec. 15 at 5 p.m. The choir will present “Hope Has Hands.” There will be a cookie and punch fellowship following the concert. All are welcome.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: Beulah Church of New Point and Saint Paul Comfort Church, Susan, will have their children’s Christmas program at Beulah on Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. There will be refreshments.

CONCERT: Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church will have its Christmas concert on Dec. 15 at 7 p.m.

MUSICAL: Union Baptist Church, Hayes, will hold its Christmas musical, “A Light Still Shines” on Dec. 15.

Tuesday, Dec. 17

NATIVITY SCENE: Gwynn’s Island Church of the Nazarene, Hudgins, will have its Live Nativity Scene on Dec. 17 and 19 from 7-9.

Sunday, Dec. 22

SINGING: Beech Grove Baptist Church, Hayes, will have its churchwide Christmas singing at Walter Reed Nursing & Rehabilitation Center near Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester, on Dec. 22 at 3 p.m.

CANTATA: Severn Church, Gloucester, will hold its Christmas Cantata on Dec. 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

BLUE CHRISTMAS: Apostles Lutheran Church, Gloucester, will have its Blue Christmas worship service on Dec. 22 at 7 p.m.

CANTATA: Gwynn’s Island Church of the Nazarene, Hudgins, will have its sanctuary choir cantata, “Glorious Joy,” on Dec. 22 at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 24

SPECIAL SERVICE: St. James On-The-Glebe Anglican Church, Zanoni, will have Family Evensong & Setting the Christmas Creche on Dec. 24 at 4 p.m.

CHRISTMAS PAGEANT: Abingdon Episcopal Church, Gloucester, will have its Christmas Pageant on Dec. 24 from 4-5 p.m.

SPECIAL SERVICE: Bellamy United Methodist Church, Gloucester, will have its Christmas Eve service, “Carols, Candles and Communion,” on Dec. 24 at 4 p.m. This intergenerational outside worship service (weather dependent) will be held by the fire pit. Warm beverages will be served. There will be carols, a telling of the nativity story and a celebration with holy communion. The service will be closed with a rendition of “Silent Night” by candlelight.
