Letter: Wrongful dismissal

Editor, Gazette-Journal: I join so many Gloucester residents in being very upset with the dismissal of Carol Steele. This county has benefitted from her service for more than 39 years. That service and her love for this county equipped her to be an extraordinary county administrator. I have had the pleasure of working with Carol starting with the first Daffodil Festival, as chairman of the county’s 350th celebration and other areas of community interest. The best interest of the people of Gloucester was a constant priority for her. This decision was made by new board members, led by a single incumbent. These new members should have taken time to learn about the importance of Ms. Steele’s leadership before acting. This dismissal feels like the ghost of 2008 when another long-serving county administrator was dismissed without public notice or comment.
