Letter: What’s going on at the GMHS?

This letter is directed to anyone who donates, volunteers, supports or otherwise cares about the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society and animal shelter.

I have been dealing with, and adopting from, the GMHS for 30 years now. I was dealing with the hard-working managers and outstanding volunteers since they were quartered in the small building on Rangtang Road.

Starting in 1985, I was bringing Bonnie Ellen and Beth Hogge injured or orphaned wildlife as a state game warden. They did a wonderful job of nursing many of them back to health to be released back into the wild.

My wife (who is a shelter volunteer) and I donate to the shelter, as well as many of our friends and family members. As recently as three years ago, I promoted the weekly “Animal Jam” at Southwind Pizza each Thursday night where patrons were encouraged to bring dog and cat food, towels, litter or just cash for the GMHS in exchange for hearing some fun local music.
