Letter: Wake up, drivers

Last week as I stood at the end of my driveway waiting for the bus with my 5-year-old grandson, a driver must have been in another land. The stop lights on the bus were flashing and the stop sign was out, and here she goes whizzing on by!

This is not the first time over the years that drivers at our address are oblivious to what a stopped school bus means. VDOT was even kind enough to move bus signs back in order for drivers to be more prepared. 

Drivers, your text, phone call, whatever it is that you’re doing, is not important. The bus driver is helpless—she/he cannot stop and take down your plate number or snap a picture of it. (But I can!) They are focusing on safety of the lives on the bus. I spoke with the bus superintendent and have made our sheriff aware, so he can get a game plan together.
