Editor, Gazette-Journal:

This is the second editorial in a month in which you’ve attacked voter ID laws as if they were some kind of a right-wing plot to suppress voting by certain groups. What they are designed to suppress is illegal voting. Is it too much of a stretch to imagine that someone who came here illegally, stays here illegally, works here illegally, might also vote here illegally?

From your editorial: "We are not aware of any cases of voter fraud from our area and rather resent the implication. Why suspect everyone?"

We don’t suspect everyone; we suspect some. There is a not-too-subtle difference. We don’t resent a security camera in a bank. We know and understand that some people are dishonest. Verifying that a voter is both legal and only voting once is a responsibility owed the honest voter.
